Fan of the Week – Luke Blundell

SAMSUNG DIGITAL CAMERA

Luke has been attending Jets games since the first season. Since about 2009 he’s been involved with the Jets active support, becoming a member of the Squadron at the start of the 2010/11 season.  Usually attending all the Jets away NSW games and trying to get to at least one away game outside of NSW a season.  Most weeks he ends up watching every A-League match on Foxtel, as well as about 4-5 EPL games (including Man Utd) every week. He spends his spare time pretty much playing FIFA and Football Manager.

A-League Team?

Newcastle Jets. Been going to games since season 1, member since 2010. Also used to follow Newcastle in the NSL.

Favourite A-League player?

Of all time, it’s Joel Griffiths. My favourite current player is Emile Heskey

Favourite A-League ground?

I’ve only been to 4 so far: Hunter, Bluetongue, SFS and AAMI Park. I’ll be adding Suncorp to that list next year. Out of those 4 I’d say AAMI Park is my favourite.

Favourite A-League moment?

Newcastle winning the 07/08 Grand Final

Earliest football memory?

Staying up late Monday nights as a kid watching the EPL highlights and wanting to do what David Beckham and Ronaldo did

Other football teams you support?

Manchester United and Ipswich Town

Best overall football moment?

John Aloisi and that penalty. It will be hard to top that

If you could change ONE thing about the league what would it be?

Longer season so we don’t have a 6 month off-season

How will the Socceroos go in Brazil this week, and next year?

I think Brazil will win by a goal or 2. As for the World Cup it depends on who we draw and who Holger takes. I’m expecting that the boys won’t progress past the group stage.

How much #HeskeyTime will we see this season?

Hopefully a lot. Having a player like Nathan Burns in support will hopefully create more chances for Emile this year, and break double figures. But if he’s just gonna get long balls again we won’t get much Heskey time unfortunately.

Can the Jets challenge for the title this season?

If we see a change in playing style from last season, and Jaliens doesn’t turn into a flop defender, I think the Jets can finish top 6. I don’t think they’ll challenge for the Premiership, but you never know in football.

Good luck to Luke as he plays in the Grand Final this weekend.
