Earlier this week, Football NSW released the full draw for the Waratah Cup.
This season, the Cup takes on extra significance as it doubles as a qualifier for Football Federation Australia’s newly established FFA Cup. The last 7 teams remaining in the competition will gain entry into the FFA Cup.
The early rounds of the Waratah Cup see local association sides take on one another in an attempt to get through to the middle rounds of the competition. Dapto Dandaloo are a side to watch out for in the early stages, with their reputation as one of the Illawarra Premier League’s heavyweights making them a dark horse for the Waratah Cup.
As of now, the clash to look forward to the most occurs in Round 4. Beaten NPL NSW 2013 finalists Rockdale City host the NPL NSW 2013 Champions, Bonnyrigg White Eagles.
The Waratah Cup is known to throw a wrench in the gears most seasons, with a lesser known side going on a fairytale run.
Reigning Waratah Cup winners APIA Leichhardt will be hoping to add more silverware this season, especially with the redevelopment of their home, Lambert Park, nearing completion.
