Three and Easy

THREE AND EASY

Melbourne Victory are deserved 2015 Champions after devouring a poor Sydney FC.  Victory dominated from the outset and never really looked like faltering at home.  The 3-0 score line was very reflective of the overall result but surprisingly Sydney stayed within closing distance for the bulk of the game.   Joe Marston medallist Mark Milligan lead from the front and shut down any chances Sydney had through the midfield and was the catalyst for the result.  Kosta Barbarouses also proved a handful up front and could’ve but the game out of reach far earlier in the evening.

HIGHS AND LOW(Y)S

No matter your personal opinion of Frank Lowy, he’s a remarkable businessman who has given plenty to the football community in Australia.  His unfortunate fall from the stage was a moment that will be on high rotation on YouTube this evening, but thankfully Mr Lowy was cleared from any serious injury.  The fall looked horrific from the stands and even worse on the various stills via social media.

ELECTRIC ATMOSPHERE

Close to 30,000 turned AAMI Park into one of the best sporting crowds the A-League had witnessed.  The purpose built football stadium provided the perfect venue for the Grand Final and showed those who run the game better fitted stadiums are the way forward for the league.  Unfortunately they will ignore this advice and continue to play at ill fitted stadiums.  For anyone at the ground today they will take away a great match day experience.

ADIOS ARCHIE

Victory striker Archie Thompson has expressed his interest in continuing his A-League career in 2015/16 no matter what his contract status at his club.  The Victory veteran is adored by the many Victory fans and it would be a shame to see Archie go elsewhere.  With Jamie Maclaren wanting a return to Melbourne Thompson may not get another contract under Kevin Muscat.  When Thompson game on today the game was well and truly over and it’s clear to see Victory will survive life after Archie.  Today would be the perfect way to finish such a distinguished professional career.

ONE MEDAL NO MINUTES

Injury replacement player Michael Turnbull will finish the season with a winners medal, but without playing a single minute of the A-League season.  This could be the final act in the league for the 34 year old keeper, who played six games with New Zealand Knights, failing to record a win (or clean sheet).

QUIET PLEASE

I understand the jubilation when your team has won the Championship but when the opposition captain is giving his awkward “we weren’t good enough” speech you should have the decency to at remain quiet and maybe listen to a few words.  For Victory fans to continue with their Sydney FC chants was very poor form.
