Contract Talks And The Mariners

It’s been another interesting week in the Queensland capital with ghosts of the clubs past resurfacing with the news that due to a mistake in the registration of the contract of defender James Donachie his contract which was originally thought to be up in May 2017 actually expires at the end of this season.

.
In fact Donachie is one of 12 Brisbane players out of contract at the end of the season which means John Aloisi and Football Operations Manager Craig Moore have some difficult decisions to make in the coming weeks as free agency heats up.

.
The full list of Brisbane players who are coming out of contract at the end if the seasons includes goalkeeper Jamie Young, defenders Daniel Bowles, Jade North, Jack Hingert, James Donachie and Shane Stefanutto, midfielders Javier Hervas, Devante Clut and Steven Lustica, and attackers Brandon Borrello, Jean Carlos Solórzano and Henrique.
Back to the on field news and John Aloisi finally has a full squad available to him following the return to fitness of injured duo Luke DeVere and Michael Theo. Theo has missed 8 games, while DeVere has been out since the Villarreal game in May and both are set to return via the youth team this weekend.

.
The rest of their teammates will be in Gosford on Sunday afternoon looking to continue on from last Saturday’s win over Wellington Phoenix. The impact off the bench of substitutes Steven Lustica, Javier Hervas and Jean Carlos Solórzano highlights the depth of the squad at Aloisi’ disposal and gives him an interesting selection headache. Last weeks surprising omission Brandon Borrello will also be firmly in the frame following a brace against the Mariners in round 2.

.

Despite not getting the results this season to date, the Mariners have employed a philosophy of exciting the fans which should ensure that this weekends clash is another entertaining one.

.

Brisbane have a good record with 11 wins from 18 on the Central Coast, with just the two losses in what is the most regularly played fixture in the history of the A-League with Sunday’s clash the 40th time the two sides have met.

NYL

After a weekend off the Young Roar side resume their National Youth League campaign on Saturday morning with a home game against Adelaide United. As mentioned previously, Brisbane will welcome back a pair of injured players back in the clash, while other first teamers who haven’t featured much so far this season such as Devante Clut and Shannon Brady are likely to play some part.
W-League

Meanwhile in the W-League this weekend Brisbane will try and resurrect their season with a tricky away game against Sydney FC in Gosford on Sunday. With just a month remaining in the regular season the Roar ladies are in danger of missing the finals for a second successive period, however a win this weekend will keep them well in finals calculations.
