Harbour Views: A daunting prospect

So here we are, possibly the most important fortnight in the clubs short history. The sky blues are out of form facing the prospect of dropping out of the top 6 whilst looking forward to the beginning of our ACL campaign.

Recap: Sydney Fc 1-2 Perth Glory

This game was really a must win for Graham Arnold and his men, The sky blues could even be content with a draw but couldn’t afford a loss to possibly the only contender to topple one of the top 6. Unfortunately for the sky blues, things didn’t go right and if they weren’t sure about that, a growing discontent was audible amongst the sky blue faithful. Early on, things weren’t too bad before Perth found space down the right (something we’re kinda getting used too), a cross was whipped in and unfortunately for our keeper Janjetovic the ball cleaned bowled him and an opportunistic Andy Keogh pounced. Ahead of the derby this is possibly one of the worst things that could of happened for us given that Vedran is susceptible to a mistake in a big game. In attack for the first half, there wasn’t much been offered apart from a valiant Brosque who well was just being himself putting pressure on the Glory’s back four.

The Sydney back four was again opened up after 65 minutes when Sandor made a piercing run and forced a save from Janjetovic, unfortunately for him it dropped to Harold who squeezed the ball into the net in slow motion. At this point, Arnie threw the final dice bringing on Smeltz who lets be honest (we don’t know why his there). He did make an effect however scoring in the 79th minute. Unfortunately however we couldn’t find a second which leaves us in trouble.

Looking Ahead: Derby

So if ever there was a derby was needed, its now. The team seem to lift against our cross-city rivals and hopefully that can mean we can get our season back on track (not holding my breathe though). In terms of selection, the obvious change is Abbas coming in to replace Grant who unfortunately has had a horror couple of weeks so frankly needs a break. Elsewhere Holosko should be back and despite some recent criticism, is vital to our hopes as proven by the draw against Adelaide the week before. His replacement Blackwood, just didn’t make the same runs as our marquee and therefore gave there left back a rather easy time. Holosko also has a point to prove given he missed out on the ACL Squad.

News

As mentioned the ACL squad has just been released. The main news from that is the foreigners who missed out in Fillip Holosko and Jacques Faty. Other than that there are no surprises. The team will travel to our first game in Japan on Sunday morning.

Finally the draw for the NPL has been released and memberships are available for $80. Details can be found here: http://www.foxsportspulse.com/comp_info.cgi?c=1-10179-0-399130-0&a=FIXTURE
