CITY VIEWS | One Mooy Time

Last Melbourne City season I had the pleasure to see Aaron Mooy grace AAMI Park.  Game after game Mooy would perform his magic act to a small but loyal crowd of barely five figures but they never left without appreciating the mesmerising talents of our number eight.

With speculation rife that Mooy will give Europe a second attempt, Tuesday night will most likely be the final time he represents the national team as a Melbourne City player.  Our national team will always come first, and player development should be at the forefront of thinking by every supporter of Australian football.  Having a player from your very own club play at the highest level is an honour that shouldn’t be taken lightly and the Socceroos should be considered the pinnacle for Australian players.

Mooy has been outstanding for Melbourne City and whilst we all love him at the club it’s time for him to fly the coop and grow his wings in Europe.  Whilst selfishly I would love City to thrown ridiculous amounts of money at our star, the more I read about his prospective move to Europe the more I cannot see him remaining at City.

Mooy has represented the club fifty-three times at A-League level and the more I realise he will not be in the starting squad in season 2016/17 the more I appreciate his contribution in a City shirt.  Mooy will exit without silverware but leaves lasting memories for City fans.

It the chance presents itself get along to Etihad Stadium and thank Aaron Mooy for his two years of service for our club.  Time moves fast in the football off season and we may not get an opportunity to formally reward Mooy for his performances in a City shirt.

I won’t miss the sublime skills of watching Aaron Mooy perform live on a regular basis because I understand he needs this move to further his career, but I will miss the look on the kids faces in the crowd as they watch in awe as they see a Socceroos star live in the flesh.
