RED ALL OVER | United We Stand
The grass has been cut, the lines have been marked and the nets are up. Real Football is back and the Champions Adelaide United is just days away from defending their crown.
Coach Amor and his merry men will go at it for another 27 rounds with 14 of those games being at the spiritual home of South Australian football, Hindmarsh Stadium. The REDS will have a new wave of support this season with expectations high in the city of churches after last season’s fairytale story. The Red Army will be out in force and will certainly be a significant presence behind the northern end goals this campaign creating a passionate unique atmosphere of songs and chants only experienced in World Football. Hindmarsh will be rocking all around the ground too as a sea of RED’s fans file in and fill the seats full of hope and anticipation bathed in their RED shirts.
The 12th man this season will of course be us the fans as we turn our home ground into a fortress with no team daring to steal the 3 points away from UNITED. This is our home, our city, our state and our Mighty Adelaide United is ready to be rocked!
So what have the Champions done in the off season to ensure we defend our title and go back to back? Well 3 pretty significant signings have been added. Firstly Sergi Guardiola a 6 foot, 25 year old Spanish striker who has signed for Barcelona in the past no less, he is looking to get his career back on track and who knows just might use Adelaide United to do it, a young man with a point to prove, his want to play at the highest level in Europe might just drive him to bang in 20 to 25 goals this season. Wouldn’t we love a striker to do that in a RED shirt!
Secondly Henrique nicknamed the slippery fish, the former Brisbane Roar man is a real impact player, a guy that can turn the game on its head with a drop of the shoulder, shake of the hips, step over, then next thing the opposition is picking the ball out of the back of the net. A bloke to look out for flying down the flanks this season leaving defenders for dead. This man will flourish under a coach like Amor and we may just see the best out of Henrique in a RED shirt.
Thirdly James Holland, the 27 year old Socceroos squad member at the last world cup in 2014. The perfect replacement for Stefan Mauk (Editors note: Can we swap him for Osama Malik). This Socceroo is a box to box midfielder with great engines; he will do a lot of the grunt work in the centre of the midfield this season. However not only will Holland defend well he can create too, don’t be surprised to see him set up a few for Guardiola this year as well as score a few himself. I am also looking forward to him teaming up with the best defensive midfielder in the league Isaias. Holland and Isaias, our two central midfielders that is something to get excited by RED’s fans.
Adelaide United have put the puzzle together just in time as we head into another season, the squad looks well balanced and has a great mix of youth and experience, new young talent will emerge this year as Amor does what he does best and turns young kids into superstars. His tactical genius and astute coaching eye will ensure the full squad is switched on ready to go and able to deal with any opposition put in front of them.
To say I can’t wait would be an understatement and I know REDS fans you share my enthusiasm. So strap yourself in get your best RED shirt out and ride the next 27 rounds with me. United we stand divided we fall!
