RED ALL OVER | The Slippery Fish

After eight rounds of pain REDs fans finally see Adelaide United win again. Just like last season when United didn’t get a win till round nine, history has gone and repeated itself with the REDS kick starting their season with a victory over Wellington Phoenix in front of their loyal fans.

So the Champions finally played like Champions and give United supporters hope that they can mirror the run which saw them make history last campaign ending with Championship glory. Will the fairytale be written again? We can only wait and see.

A very upbeat and determined display for Adelaide United against the kiwis, however despite the early dominance from the home side The REDS could have been a goal down on twenty one minutes when a penalty was awarded to Wellington. Krishna was denied from a superb save by Galekovic who guessed the right way. This save further inspired United and on twenty seven minutes Henrique our slippery fish went BANG from twenty five yards and gave the home side the lead with an absolute screamer, pick that one out!

Things kept on getting better for Adelaide United as the lads started to take control and push the ball around with ease making Phoenix for most of the half chase shadows. Then on thirty-nine minutes lightning struck twice as Isaias neatly cut the ball back to Henrique and the Brazilian launched another rocket from twenty-five yards to double the REDS lead. Pure class from United’s Slippery fish!

The second half saw the KIWIS huff and puff a bit but there was no knocking down United’s defense as the boys dug deep with a determined swagger to not let this game slip. Ryan Kitto was tireless out wide running at defenders and Ben Garrucio was again solid at fullback as United’s defense kept another clean sheet and to be fair didn’t give the Kiwis an inch all night. Marc Marino looked lively when coming on late and was unlucky not to score denied by a fabulous save.

So after ninety minutes the game ended two nil to the REDs and takes Adelaide United off the bottom of the table. Questions now can be asked are the Champions back? Will the fairytale run play out again this season? But for me the only question I want to ponder is which goal was better, Henrique’s first or Henrique’s second? I liked the first one better personally… But will let the REDS fans come up with their own choice!
