Shot of Confidence

Adelaide United has won! Yes that’s right the Champions have got just their 3rd win of the season and given their supporters a home win to soak up. Is the spirit back at the spiritual home of South Australian Football? Let’s hope so! These results have been few and far between and on the back of last week’s humiliating loss probably not even the most RED eyed fan would have picked it. What an incredible backs to the wall performance by United as the Newcastle Jets came to town and left with no points and even more surprising no goals. Adelaide tightened up that leaky defense and was able to hold out for a one nil win.

The game was nothing more than a scrap with limited chances throughout the night but it was pleasing to see some heroic efforts by the lads. John Hall in goals was outstanding and had his best ever night between the posts for the REDS. That save in the first half which saw him smash into the post with his head was of course sickening to see but most importantly a brave and lion hearted stop. How he wasn’t knocked out into next week only the post and John Halls head knows! However he carried on like the warrior he is and kept a clean sheet over the ninety minutes. That must of inspired the boys as too the REDs fans!

Marcelo Carrusca on the Friday was a rock as well just days earlier this man was dropped from our Asian Champions league squad, so what did the little maestro do in response? Well let me tell you, he lead the REDS out as captain and on sixty one minutes after a delightful run from Tarek Elrich who had to be brought down. Our captain, our number TEN stood tall took on the responsibility and leadership to calmly slot home a Penalty and give the REDS the winner on the night. Great character shown by Carrusca and for me one of the greatest ever to put on a UNITED shirt. I will miss him in our Asian Champions League tilt!

The kids also stepped up and continued to impress none more so than young gun Riley Mcgree, it is hard to think that this kid is only Eighteen, however his strength on the ball, tricks and breath taking dribbling skills is very exciting for all REDs fans.  Another strong display from Riley on the night and one can only think how good can this kid be?

So the Reds win one zip and get another three points to keep their finals dreams alive. Who knows can the champions still make the top six? It is though the perfect shot of confidence before the Asian Champions League next week and for REDS fans a much needed smile. Newcastle came to town and like their home town boys Silverchair sang you went home after a Pure Massacre….haha maybe not quite but this REDS fan needs a little poetic license. Bring on ASIA now…We are READY!!
