Forget the Reds

On a day of remembrance it was a game to forget for Adelaide United as the top of the table Newcastle Jets flew into town and left with the three points. A very successful mission for Ernie Merrick’s men.

However the game started very promising for a young and inexperienced REDS side as the home team completely dominated possession in the first thirty-five minutes, with quick ball movement, lightning fast passing and wave after wave of attack on the Newcastle goals. The Jets were grounded and their wings truly clipped. Although for all this control the RED’s could only muster one goal on twenty-four minutes through Mileusnic. A well taken goal and neat finish on the counter attack by the RED’s winger.  So what happened five minutes before half time Adelaide United? The REDs just stopped, passes went astray and the Jets learnt to fly again.  Adelaide for the last five minutes was trapped deep in defense as Newcastle began to pepper the home sides goal. The jets with virtually the last kick of the first half equalised through Katarovski and to be fair it was well deserved.  A real bomb for Adelaide United to take into the sheds with them at halftime after having so much of the play in the opening forty-five minutes.

Although if you thought the late raids by the Jets in the first half was bad enough for the REDS. The early raids were even worse, when on forty-seven minutes, yes just two minutes into the second half.  Newcastle pounced on a terrible back pass from Adelaide United’s defense and Nabbout had the easiest of tap-ins. The second dropped on the Reds and the final one needed to win the war.

Of course the REDS continued to push for an equalizer , however with every thrust forward Newcastle equally counter attacked and ripped open the woeful REDS defense with ease and in all honestly looked more likely of a third goal than Adelaide looked like levelling it.

At full time the Jets deserved the win and look good this season as they sit at the top of the A-League runway. The reds have more questions than answers, one would be how can you play so well for thirty five minutes and just let a game slip in the blink of an eye.

Another would be when will all our injured key personal come back as the kids are drowning out there without them. Three losses in a row now for the RED’s with two of those at home. Adelaide United the kids are not alright.
