Bound for Glory? Well hopefully.
With top six hopes hanging by a thread a rejuvenated Perth look to snatch an important away win from a depleted looking Jets.
If last week’s game against Sydney FC was anything to go by, interim coach Alistair Edwards has worked wonders to lift the Grand Finalist’s crushed spirits. His patient approach to play and focus on passing and possession rather than aimless crosses gave Perth the first goal of the game. Sydney then equalised through a remarkable Del Piero effort. A well fought second half and a moment of magic from target man Shane Smeltz, sealed the win for the home team.
Edwards instantly become a fan favourite after leading Glory to a stunning win against league leaders Central Coast Mariners on his first game in charge. But, will this resurgence be enough to carry Glory to a win at Hunter Stadium?
Perth have taken two from two against Newcastle so far this season and with the return of Captain Jacob Burns from a lengthy injury spell, and Smeltz rediscovering last season’s scintillating form, the Jets are on notice!
Jets coach, Gary Van Egmond will be without marquee player Emile Heskey this week due to calf injury leaving him with few attacking options. Van Egmond made the somewhat controversial decision to rest key players Heskey and Bridges when the Jets took on Melbourne last week. This ended disastrously with the away team copping a 5-0 hammering.
Will Van Egmonds young guns be able to regroup after such a battering? Or will the age and experience of Perth Glory seize the 3 points?
