Jets out as Wanderers win Premiers Plate

WSWbeatJetsMore than 6000 Wanderers fans travelled up the F3 to watch their team take on the Newcastle Jets at Hunter Stadium. In a must win game for the Jets to make the finals and no worse than a draw for WSW to secure the Premiers Plate, it was set up to be a cracker.

The Jets started off slow, barely getting off the ground. It was not the fast take off they needed. Western Sydney piled up the pressure and took an early lead in the 6th minute through Bridge.

As the half continued on, Jets looked stranded on the ground and couldn’t do anything with the ball. The Wanderers continued to pile on the pressure and in the 32nd minuted, doubled their lead. The RBB went wild.

Heskey lost his cool in the 36th minute and picked up a yellow. The Jets weren’t happy with the Reffing, however in all honesty it wasn’t that bad. Only one really bad call and that went in the Jets favour!

At half time the Jets were 2-0 down and were not looking good. GVE must have given them a hard talking to in the sheds because they came out much better in the 2nd half.

Newcastle attacked continuously in the 2nd half, building pressure. Some close chances giving the Jets a sense of hope. The Wanderers were happy to sit back and absorb the pressure, choosing to play on the counter.

Some good attempts on goal, with the Jets unlucky to score with a shot coming off the woodwork. The Wanderers punished the Jets from a corner with a short corner and great strike by Visconte making it 3-0 on the 80th minute.

As the game drew to a close, the Jets didn’t look like even getting a consolation goal. Western Sydney were just to good a team for them.

The Wanderers won the game 3-0 and the Premiers Plate with it. Now all eyes will be on the finals series to see if the Western Sydney Wanderers can go all the way and win the finals too.
