World Cup Diary – Day Two

NERVOUS START

The Socceroos were brave, but sadly this wasn’t enough against the more experienced South American Chilean team.  Chile run out 3-1 winners, after going 2-0 up in the first 15 minutes.  For Australia Tim Cahill managed to find the back of the net for the third consecutive World Cup.  Unfortunately Cahill was offside the second time he found the net.  Mark Bresciano was denied by a spectacular save that would’ve seen Australia go 2-2.  Matthew Leckie and Jason Davidson were the standouts for the Socceroos.

We learnt plenty about the Socceroos who will be taking us forward.  Spain and Netherlands will be tough encounters but the Asian Cup in Australia in now our ultimate goal.

SPAINFUL START

The reigning World Champions got off to the worst possible start against an orange hot Netherlands team.  Netherlands wound back the clock and put any doubts fans had to rest.  Robin Van Persie scored twice in the rout.  Spain will be looking to relaunch their campaign against Chile, and in their final game against the Socceroos.

In the final game of the day Mexico defeated Cameroon 1-0.  Sadly this took a back seat for us on the other side of the globe.
