HARBOUR VIEWS – DOUBLE DELIGHT
A lot has happened since I last typed a Sydney Fc article. Firstly the Sky blues took out an exhilarating derby out at Parramatta. Then enjoyed, perhaps a more comfortable victory against the Jets away from home. So let’s get to it.
DERBY DELIGHT
It seemed a long time between Derby victories out at the building site which is known as Parramatta Stadium. Although being heavily favourites beforehand, Sydney supporters such as myself were careful beforehand knowing that number 1. Its football and number 2. It’s a derby and funny things often occur. Thankfully for the neutral, it didn’t disappoint with both teams enjoying periods of dominance and the spectacle itself possibly cementing itself as the A-league’s premier regular season fixture.
The game started all positive for the sky blues who seemed to settle in before their opponents and the pressure paid off reasonably early when a Milos Dimitrijevic corner caused chaos with the ball rebounding off the post onto Covic before going in the net. 1-0 to Sydney Fc. Then the marquee man Marc Janko stepped in firstly by rolling the ball into the keepers bottom right corner after in truth some poor defense before seeing off an aerial challenge from Hamill before expertly putting the ball into the net. 3-0 Sydney and if only they could of held them off till half time.
The wanderers hit back with a goal from La Rocca as Janjetovic caught in no man’s land as the ball was volleyed in. This was followed soon after by a tap in for Bulut after a quick counter and classy assist from Rukavytsya. HT 3-2.
Second half was more of the same story, the Wanderers continued their momentum which paid off soon later with a bullet from Bulut who scored a screamer (well if you could see it). The derby was level. At this point I turned to my friend and said it’s now whoever wants it more. Thankfully for us, it was Sydney Fc and a certain midfielder from Bankstown who only needed two touches to put it in the Covic goal before running over to the faithful tapping the badge. Thanks Terry!
Positive from the game was the result, but there was quite a bit of improvement to be had, particularly at the back which brings us to Newcastle.
NEWCASTLE AWAY
What a difference a week makes aye. After three heart stopping in a row, it was perhaps a welcome sight for Sydney supporters to have a score line of 1-0. In truth it was far from convincing particularly in the first half as both sides had chances on each other’s nets. Most notable for Sydney was a free header to Sebastian Ryall which cannoned off the crossbar into the path of Janko who had his shot hit the post. The longer the game went on, the more the sky blues looked in control and the reward came after 67 minutes when substitute Robert Stambolziev played in Marc Janko who first tried to square the ball into Brosque but it rebounded into his path who calmly slotted the ball into the goal. From that point on, there wasn’t much action. Game can simply be summed up as not pretty but they got the result.
NEWS
As we are now in the pointy end of the season, there is plenty of talk about contracts now. Particularly of interest for Sydney is now re-signing Milos Dimitrijevic (which could be close) and marquee man Marc Janko who personally I would now throw money at him given he is apparently attracting interest. In terms of injuries, Faty pulled up with a bad hamstring and no date has been set for his return. Apart from that, not much to report.
Next Fixture: Sydney Fc vs Brisbane Roar @ Allianz Stadium, Sunday 15th of March 5pm.
