Marconi Stallions 0

Notes
Bonnyrigg jumped out of the blocks quickly, scoring within the first minute of kick-off. Robbie Younis opened the scoring, finishing off a swooping cross from close range. The White Eagles controlled the opening ten minutes or so of play before Marconi began working their way into the match.

Marconi’s midfield kept pace with Bonnyrigg’s. Stallions captain Jared Lum delivered a free kick but the White Eagles’ new goalkeeper James Chronopoulos palmed it over the crossbar for a corner. Chronopoulos has come in at Bonnyrigg for Matthew Nash who signed a two year deal with Central Coast Mariners. He’s more than an able replacement and arguably the league’s best goalkeeper.

Liam Austin was the next Marconi player to test Chronopoulos but his shot sailed over the crossbar. Lum tested the White Eagles goal with a header but that was also missed.

Both midfields tried to gain control and momentum throughout the half. Neither side was able to get the upper hand, but it did look as though Marconi could find an equaliser before half time.

Just prior to half time both sides were able to fashion chances. Both the Bonnyrigg and Marconi defences were on show, with excellent defending preventing additional goals being scored.

Bonnyrigg went into half time up by the early goal but Marconi was still in the contest.

The second half started in a similar fashion to the first half. Bonnyrigg’s Dylan Fox had an effort from distance but we all watched it sail over the crossbar.

It wasn’t long after that Bonnyrigg increased their lead. Aaron Peterson floated a great, well-timed header across Marconi’s goal. Bonnyrigg captain Chris Tadrosse delivered a pinpoint cross, with Peterson just guiding the ball home past a hapless Marconi goalkeeper.

Another new Bonnyrigg player, Ray Miller, made it 3:0 just a few minutes later. Miller utilised the space outside of the box afforded to him by Marconi players. He unleashed with a powerful shot and there was nothing that Marconi’s custodian could do about it.

It was all Bonnyrigg after this. The White Eagles continued to turn the screws, with a number of opportunities going begging for Bonnyrigg.

A short time later Peterson beat the offside trap, running on to a excellently weighted through ball. He rounded Stallions goalkeeper Nastic but his touch was heavy, allowing Nastic time to diffuse Peterson’s shot.

The home side continued to press and search for a fourth. Adam Jenner forced Nastic to tip his shot away for a corner. Bonnyrigg were building good pressure.

Finally, White Eagles substitute Alex Mansueto drilled a brilliant effort home to make it 4:0. The match was well and truly over.

Scout Notes
Bonnyrigg’s Chris Tadrosse and Tynan Diaz bossed their side of the pitch. They combined really well, the benefit of playing in the same side for the past few seasons.

James Chronopoulos seems to have fit in really well at Bonnyrigg. He was confident and calm when called upon and marshaled his back four with enthusiasm.

Overall, the White Eagles played really well. They lifted the tempo when they had to and times seemed to be playing at a blistering pace.

Meanwhile the early signs don’t look good for Marconi. They were competitive in the first half but drifted away in the second. By the end they looked tired and possibly lacking some fitness.
