NPLNSW 1 March Recap
Can you believe we’ve already reached the end of March? This usually means that the football season is coming to its conclusion. However this doesn’t apply for state divisions across Australia. So we are now 3 rounds into the competition and teams are starting to sort themselves out within the NSW competition.
Round 1
The opening round of the season was highlighted by the clash of defending champions Blacktown City facing off against Pre-season cup winners Sydney United. In what was a thrilling match, a first half hat trick to Mitchell Malia proved too much for Mark Rudan’s men although they almost claimed a draw thanks to goal to Theo Kofinas and Stjepan Paric. Elsewhere Apia shocked Rockdale to prove they won’t be pushovers this season whilst Bonnyrigg, Sydney Olympic, Sutherland recorded comfortable wins and new boys to the competition Parramatta Fc recorded a hard fought win against Marconi.

Rockdale City 2-4 APIA Leichhardt Tigers

Round 2
Round 2 of the season saw the heavyweights of the competition assert their authority. In what was labelled the match of the round, Sydney United put 3 goals past a wasteful Sutherland team. Goals to Mirjan Pavlovic, Ante Tomic and a late strike from Anthony Tomelic ensured that the Sharks were made to pay for missing 2 penalties. Elsewhere Sydney Olympic, Blacktown City and Bonnyrigg comfortably eased past their respective opponents. While Apia proved that their first round result was no fluke beating Manly at home and Blacktown Spartans edged a highscoring encounter against Rockdale.

South Coast Wolves 1-4 Blacktown City
APIA Leichhardt Tigers 3-1 Manly United
Round 3
Round 3 of the NPLNSW competition saw another round of a whole lot of goals. Apia continued to flex their muscles beating traditional rivals Marconi in a clash which included 7 goals. Marconi did however take the lead with a 35 yard long shot. The Stallions lead didn’t last with Nick Olsen leveling the scores, Blake Powell scored a couple, Adam Griffiths scrambled one home before Olsen finished it off. Elsewhere South Coast and Sutherland played out an entertaining 2 all draw, Sydney United saw off the Blacktown Spartans whilst the other Blacktown side saw off Parramatta to keep their unbeaten start alive. In the match of the round Bonnyrigg came back from 2-0 down to snatch a point against Olympic. The other game was a scoreless draw between struggling sides Manly United and Rockdale.
