A Win To Welcome The New Chairman

Brisbane Roar have a new Chairman. Brisbane owner Nirwan Bakrie confirmed the appointment of fellow Indonesian Raheem Soekasah as the new Chairman, replacing the outgoing Chris Fong who hasn’t been involved in the Roar since July.
In other changes to the clubs board, another Indonesian, Demis Djamoeddin was added to the clubs board while another Indonesian, Dali Tahir retained his place on board.

Soekasah and Djamoeddin first became involved in the Roar in August, when they were asked by the clubs ownership to get involved and begin to repair the financial dramas facing the Roar. The duo will now reportedly move to Brisbane full-time to keep a close eye on the club and oversee what they described as the ‘birth of the new Brisbane Roar’ at a fan forum back in September.

In other off-field news, interim CEO David Pourre has been given the role on a permanent basis by the clubs ownership group. Pourre previously acted as the Roar’s commercial director.

The appointment of Pourre to the role in a permanent role is a positive development, with the CEO doing a good job in trying circumstances over the previous months. The jury however remains out on the Indonesian board members.
Back to on-field matters and Brisbane are back in action on Sunday at home to Perth Glory and will be looking to continue a strong home form so far this season.

After last Fridays 0-0 stalemate against Sydney FC, a game where Brisbane failed to get a shot on target they’ll no doubt be looking to regain some attacking momentum.

They’ll have to do that however without striker Jamie Maclaren, who has been called up to the Australian u/23 side along with Corey Brown. Captain Matt McKay will also miss due to being selected to represent Australian in World Cup Qualifiers against Kyrgyzstan and Bangladesh.

While Steven Lustica is an obvious inclusion for McKay, the replacement for Maclaren is a far more open competition with a host of players vying for a start.

Dimitri Petratos, Devante Clut, Shannon Brady and NYL team striker Nick D’Agostino –who scored twice in their season opener last week- are all options for Aloisi.

As are Spaniard Javier Hervas and Henrique who are additions to an extended squad. Hervas is now fully fit after spending six weeks gaining fitness after arriving from Europe without any pre-season training under his belt, while Henrique will be in line for his first appearance back since an ACL injury in March ended his season.

Should Hervas, D’Agostino or reserve goalkeeper Andre Jannese –who continues to deputise for the injured Michael Theo- get any game time, they will become the 114th player to represent Brisbane Roar.

Also on Sunday as part of a double header the Roar W-League side will be seeking to bounce back from a loss to Adelaide against Perth Glory.

After having their bye week last week, Belinda Wilson’s side will have to play without their Matildas trio Katrina Gorry, Clare Polkinghorne and Tameka Butt.

Rounding out a busy weekend here in Brisbane is the first National Youth League home game of the season against Melbourne Victory on Saturday afternoon at Cleveland Showgrounds.

Brisbane had a good start to the new NYL season had a 2-0 win over Perth Glory to sit second in Conference B after the first round thanks to a Nick D’Agostino brace.

Victory meanwhile had a losing start to their campaign, losing 4-2 on the road to Adelaide United.
