CEO Appointment and WSW Clash

It’s been another relatively quiet week here in Brisbane, with the majority of the news surrounding the current stand off between the FFA and the active supporters over the lack of an appeals process and the FFA’s inaction in defending the game.

.
The one bit of news relating to Brisbane this week is that David Pourre has finally been appointed the CEO after months of acting as the clubs interim. The news has been largely expected for weeks now, however it’s great to have things confirmed.

.
Pourre, who stepped in once former Managing Director Sean Dobson left the Roar in May, oversaw the Roar’s resurgence from overwhelming debt and inactive ownership, until now where the debt has been significantly reduced and things are on track on the park.

.
In an email to fans on Monday announcing the news, the clubs new chairman Rahim Soekasah said that Pourre “answered every one of the owners questions with vigour and didn’t sugar coat the scenario” while also praising the CEO for the amount of work

.
On the park Brisbane continue their month long road trip with a trip to Parramatta for the second time this season in a rematch of the first game of this season. While it will likely be relatively quiet off the park due to the active supporter boycotts on the park it looks to be an intriguing contest.

.
Going into this game the Wanderers are on a five game winning streak, their best since their debut season when they won eleven in a row to clinch the Premiership at the first attempt. The driving force of this recent form is the resurgence of former Brisbane midfielder Mitch Nichols, who’s scored four goals already this season including in the last meeting between the two sides.

.

Brisbane meanwhile arrive on the back of consecutive 1-1 draws which have seen the Roar slide from 1st to 3rd on the competition table as they continue their month long road trip due to the concerts and field refurbishments at Suncorp Stadium.

.
The midfield battle this week looms as the key, as it does in a lot of game between two good sides. Corona was outstanding in his debut last time out against the Wanderers, however since then Dimas and Andreu have emerged as one of the best midfield pairs in the competition this season, so it figures to be a tougher task this time around. Matt McKay, who missed the round 1 win due to National Team commitments will be back however to give Corona greater support in the middle of the park, however Javier Hervas will miss the game with a minor injury.

.
Brisbane’s set pieces were also influential in the outcome of the clash last time around, with goals from corners to Daniel Bowles and Jamie Maclaren ensuring the win for the visiting side. While it’s unlikely the set pieces will be as influential this time around, the Roar have scored three of their thirteen goals this season from corners.

In the National Youth League this weekend, Brisbane travels to Melbourne to take on City this Saturday afternoon at the C.B Smith Reserve. Last week the Young Roar lost for the first time away to Adelaide, however they still sit top of Conference A at the halfway mark of the season and have three of their remaining games at home following this week.
It’s a different story in the W-League as the Brisbane ladies head on the road in search of wins after a disappointing loss on Sunday against Newcastle. Brisbane now sit 8th on the table, three points outside of the finals places on a congested W-League table, however with just two of their remaining six games at home they’ll have their work cut out if they are to return to the finals this season.

.

This week they travel to Canberra to take on second placed United, a ground where Brisbane have picked up important results in years gone by. In the meeting earlier this season between the two sides, Brisbane ran out 2-1 winners with goals from Ruth Blackburn and Tameka Butt.
