Red Relief
Well folks a win is a win; this certainly wasn’t the most entertaining game of the REDS season and it wasn’t the classic that would make the highlights reel come the end of the year. It was mind you a very attractive three points and keeps the pressure on the top five teams; we are now bearing down on.
Sometimes you just have to dig deep, roll up the sleeves and win however you can and that is exactly what Adelaide United did against the Jets. One nil, 4 wins on the bounce and 23 points from a possible 27 on offer in our last nine games does sexy things up a bit, not to mention the REDS are now unbeaten in nine games. We are the hottest team in the A-League right now and would be making a lot of other sides very nervous, who would want to play Adelaide? Not many if any.
Once again over 12,000 supporters turned Hindmarsh into a sea of RED and made the atmosphere incredible and intimidating which I’m sure played a massive part in helping the lads get over the line. The fans were on the edge of their seats in this game as they watched Newcastle close the space in the midfield and stopped Adelaide’s usual free flowing high tempo passing game.
Newcastle did a great job in turning the game into a real scrap and dog fight and frustrated the REDS for long periods as well as the home supporters. Our goal just before halftime was very symbolic of the game itself, it wasn’t pretty, it wasn’t goal of the season but it was needed. Great strength was shown by Bruce Djite in the box who crossed well and Marcelo Carrusca was there to smash it home from five yards. Finally the REDS fans could breathe again and release all that tension in the stands as we celebrated with the boys.
Newcastle had a few good chances in the 2nd half but luckily the JETS were firing blanks over the 90 minutes. The Reds defense was solid and it was pleasing to see the lads keep another clean sheet at the back.
So another positive result for the Mighty REDS and another way Amor’s men can win a football game, sometimes you just have to dig deep, get stuck in, play with passion for the shirt and win ugly because remember REDS fans the ugly duckling turns into the beautiful swan.

I think Marcelo Carrusca will be carrying this team on his shoulders. With every victory, the Reds will be clear of Perth because at some point, they’ll be dropping off and Adelaide will actually be in the race for higher placement. The top six is closer to being set.
