RED ALL OVER | Out Cold

The dream run is over and Adelaide United like a title fight boxer got knocked to the canvas by the sublime left foot of Nick Fitzgerald. He curled the ball into the top left hand corner of the REDS goal and after 71mins the Home team was out cold.

Adelaide really did offer little in this game and it was the visitors who were the superior team on the night.Melbourne city dominated the midfield and closed the REDS down anytime they got the ball. City defended well in numbers and it took some 38 minutes before Carrusca and the REDS had their first shot on target in the game.A real credit to just how hard the boys from Melbourne were working on and off the ball.

George Mells looked a little lost in the first half along with his fellow midfielders as the 3 DANGER men of City took charge, Mooy, Novillo and Fornaroli really did enjoy themselves out there on the best purpose built football ground in the land and dissapointed the 14,274 REDS fans.

Jordan Elsey also didnt have his best night in a REDS shirt and at times looked frustrated at left fullback ,the young lad would clearly prefer to play a more central defensive position. He Certainly plays better and is more comfortable in the Centre of the REDS back four.

Adelaide just never took off in this game and couldnt get their danger men flying. Carrusca coming off for tactical reasons at Haltime didnt help but Craig Goodwin, Cirio and Kamau were kept well under control by a strong defensive display in Ben Garuccio at fullback and Paddy Kisnorbo at the heart of the Visitor’s defense.

City didn’t give the REDS a sniff and when Bruce Dijte put his well timed header just wide right at the end of this clash a rare United chance. REDS fans knew the 14 game unbeaten run was over.

So back to the drawing board REDS fans as we prepare for a massive clash away to Western Sydney Wanderers next weekend. Melbourne City won the fight tonight, they jabbed with a superior midfield, they jabbed with a superior defensive display and they knocked us out with a left foot curling punch that left us all out cold.
