The Winner isn’t Sydney

The winner isn’t Sydney, Australia…. it is Hindmarsh Stadium, Adelaide, South Australia. Yes that’s right folks, last night when hosting rights were up for grabs for this years FFA CUP Final the city of churches prevailed meaning the mighty REDS will showcase the final on October 30th against Sydney FC.

Both sides will be in their 3rd final with Sydney FC winning the cup last year against our very own Adelaide United but that of course was at Alianz stadium thousands of miles away for the mighty South Aussies.  Revenge will definitely be on the REDS minds and a dish best served cold at Hindmarsh on a hot October spring night.

Adelaide have been very impressive in reaching this seasons final having not conceded a single goal on its journey to the big dance, scoring eight goals with four clean sheets on the bounce.  Sydney FC have also had a nice cup run and were ruthless against cross town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers in their Semifinal, hammering the Wanderers 3 zip. A battle of Adelaide defense versus Sydney fire power looks like the match up in this year’s final.

Both sides will be going for their 2nd FFA CUP final victory and in turn being the most successful side in the competition’s short five-year history as no team yet has ever lifted the trophy twice.

Last time Adelaide United won the FFA CUP was in 2014 against Perth Glory at Hindmarsh Stadium in front of a sea of RED.  Over 16,000 crammed into the spiritual home of South Australian football making it a sell out too see Cirio on sixty-seven minutes bang in the winner, 1 zip to the good guys on the night. This was also the first ever FFA CUP final making the mighty REDS the inaugural champions.

So fast forward four years and Adelaide United will play host again to this amazing competition which sees teams from all over Australia strive to be crowned champions.  Some 781 teams yes that is right 781 teams entered the tournament in 2018 making it even larger than the FA CUP in the UK which had 737 teams enter its tournament last season.

October 30 is shaping up to be a history making night in Adelaide and with tickets going on sale this week my advice is get in early.  The 2014 FFA CUP FINAL sold out in 30minutes so it really doesn’t leave you REDS fans much time to get on board.

Hindmarsh is always a special place for nights like this and come October 30 you really do want to be bouncing with the RED army as we shout together the Winner is …….NOT SYDNEY AUSTRALIA !!

Cmon you REDS !! SEEYA AT THE GAME!
