RED ALL OVER | That Winning Feeling

On a hot thirsty night in South Australia, the mighty REDS have quenched their loyal fans thirst with a win over Melbourne City in front of 10,600 fans on a Thursday night.  What a great sight!

United fans to see our side finally play like the Champions we know they are and give us another sip from the cup of success.

However it wasn’t all fun and games and after just four minutes the REDS found themselves one nil down from a well worked City goal. The dummy from Cahill, the quality cross from Kamau and that calm finish from Fornaroli was all class as the visitors took an early lead. You could feel the air come out of the REDS fans as 10,000 heads dropped and thought here we go again this could get ugly. A great team goal from City as United could only stand and watch Melbourne tear them apart.

That however must’ve sparked the home side into gear because just six minutes later that man Isaias whipped in a wicked cross to find McGowan inside the box and the defender finished like a centre forward to give the REDS the equaliser. Game on, the boys were back in town as the crowd began to get back into the contest and raise the noise inside Hindmarsh.

A free flowing game then unfolded as both sides traded blows and shared large periods of possession, who would crack first in the stifling heat and who could rise above the conditions to give their side all three points.

As the game started to head into its final ambers a draw was looking more than likely and to be fair probably a just result on the night. However someone didn’t tell super sub Mark Ochieng that and on eighty seven minutes, James Holland played a beautiful long ball to Guardiola who’s touch played through Ochieng and the substitute cracked one into the top right hand corner, up where the spiders live and United took the lead with minutes remaining. What a quality strike from the young lad!

Hindmarsh was now bouncing and the atmosphere was peaking like mount lofty on clear sunny day. The crowd now was riding every kick, foul and pass in final five minutes as the boys in RED dug deep and stood tall to hang on for the win. I was on the edge of my seat with everyone else inside the ground as we all whistled to remind the ref he should blow for full time.

Then on ninety five minutes the REF gave that final blow and the REDS fans gave a final ROAR! Yes Adelaide United a win, Oh that winning feeling, feels good doesn’t it! We all then walked out the stadium a foot taller a touch more optimistic and asking ourselves when is the next home game?

I want some more of that!
