Heart Time
Last Week
I’m hoping last week goes down as the darkest moment in Heart’s history. With two quick goals at the start of the game, we were all surprised thinking that the string of losses was behind us. After that moment, however we never looked like challenging Wellington for the rest of the game.
Newcastle also lost 2-3 last week, in an exciting game against Victory. Rojas is the hottest property in the A-League right now and like Rogic, may find himself in Europe by the end of the transfer window.
This Week
Thankfully Heart can welcome back Garcia, Behich, Gerhardt and Colosimo. I might suggest that we never try resting players in future, especially ones so important to us as Garcia and Behich. Not until we have a more comfortable position on the table or closer to the Socceroos games that caused them to be fatigued in the first place.
I can’t see Newcastle making many changes, although they may also want to address their leaky defence. Perhaps Neville could come into their side this week. With back-to-back games in Melbourne, the Jets have decided to stay in Melbourne over the festive period. It’s an interesting decision that I’m not a fan of. It might make sense financially or even for team bonding, but I feel that hanging around hotels is disruptive to the usual match day routine.
Prediction: Heart 3 – Jets 1
I’m predicting Heart to come out firing again, but to have learned from not only last week, but also the last game we played against the Jets. We’ve become first half specialists, but we still need to concentrate for the full 90 minutes. I’m not expecting Heskey Time – he’s been inconsistent lately and Colosimo actually did a great job of man-marking him last time at AAMI Park.
Finally Happy New Year to all the readers, particularly the Melbourne Heart fans. It’s been tough to end the year at the bottom of the ladder, but it’s not over and can only get better from here. Go Heart!
