World Football remembers: How social media reacted to Dylan Tombides’ passing

In J.K. Rowling’s famed “Harry Potter” series, the great wizard Dumbledore once commented: “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.” A quotation which is often taken for granted, it is only once tragedy strikes when we finally understand the significance of that aforementioned truism.

Although a beautiful game, football, like every other sport, has its unpleasant moments. With racial slurs stadium disasters involving fans always amid the headlines, we often forget the profound impact football can have on this world.

And Dylan Tombides’ tragic passing at such a tender age is an ideal example. A starlet who was the future of football, the 20-year-old’s death has rocked world football. And, true to form, devotees reacted in an astonishing manner.
