NPLNSW 1 April Recap.

NPLNSW 1 April Recap.

April was a wet month in NSW, matches in most junior competitions we’re cancelled with grounds resembling swamps not football pitches. This weather also had an effect on the top tier of NSW competition with matches moved and suspended respectively ensuring that most teams we’re busy throughout the month with FFA Cup qualifiers taking place as well.
Round 4
Four matches took place in Round 4 of the competition. The highlight of the round was a match between the rejuvenated APIA Leichhardt squaring off against the always heavyweights Sydney Olympic. However the teams couldn’t be separated and played out an entertaining two all draw. Key to Apia’s recovery has been the form of former A-league striker Blake Powell who can’t seem to stop scoring and has established himself as the premier striker of the competition. Elsewhere Sydney United proved way too strong for the South Coast Wolves winning 5-1 (three of which we’re penalties).
Round 4 Results
Manly United 2-1 Blacktown Spartans
Apia Leichhardt Tigers 2-2 Sydney Olympic
Sydney United 5-1 South Coast Wolves
Rockdale City Suns 0-1 Marconi Stallions

Round 5
Round 5 was again rain effected, however this time only was game was interrupted. In the main game of the round or the one which I attended was Sutherland Sharks who had a point to prove against am always consistent Bonnyrigg team. It could be easily argued that the Sharks did just that in a spirited performance with 10 men. However it didn’t prove enough as goals from Peterson and Younis proved too much for Sutherland despite what turned out a consolation goal for Jordan Figon. Elsewhere Manly United proved their victory the week before was no fluke beating lowly Marconi.
Round 5 results
Blacktown Spartans 1-1 South Coast Wolves
Sutherland Sharks 1-2 Bonnyrigg White Eagles
Blacktown City 3-1 Apia Leichhardt Tigers
Sydney United 1-0 Parramatta Fc

Round 6

Round Six saw traditional rivals Sydney United make the short trip to face traditional rivals Bonnyrigg White Eagles. They may have regretted that they did 120 seconds in with a deflected Chris Tadrosse cross finding its way into the United net. However United didn’t let that get to them bouncing back on five minutes when in form Chris Triantis equalized. This was followed by headed goal from new recruit Panny Nikas and Richard Cardozo. Elsewhere I was on hand as Rockdale slipped up late to draw a match which they really should’ve won against Blacktown City and last year’s contenders Blacktown Spartans bounced back with a win.

Round 6 Results

Marconi Stallions 0-3 Blacktown Spartans
Bonnyrigg White Eagles 1-3 Sydney United
Apia Leichhardt Tigers 2-1 Sutherland Sharks
Manly United 0-2 Sydney Olympic
Rockdale City Suns 1-1 Blacktown City
Parramatta Fc 0-0 South Coast Wolves

Round 7

In the final round of the month of April spread across the Anzac day weekend action was aplenty and the first coaching casualty came about. That was of Rockdale’s Branko Culina whose side was thumped away from home by local rivals Sutherland Sharks and that was despite going ahead early on. However the home win was never in doubt with the Sharks putting 6 goals into the Rockdale net. Elsewhere there we’re two shock results with South Coast Wolves winning at home against Bonnyrigg on the Thursday night and Manly United scoring a 4-1 win away against reigning champions Blacktown City.

South Coast Wolves  3-1 Bonnyrigg White Eagles
Sutherland Sharks 6-2 Rockdale City Suns
Blacktown City 1-4 Manly United
Blacktown Spartans 1-0 Parramatta Fc
Sydney United 1-1 Apia Leichhardt Tigers
Sydney Olympic 5-1 Marconi Stallions
