Key Dates for the 2015/16 A-League Fixture
Round One
Starting the season on a Thursday night with Brisbane Roar heading to Western Sydney. Hardly an inspiring selection given the form of both teams last season but hopefully the start of the season hype can create a full house.
Adelaide will again be heading to Adelaide Oval against Melbourne Victory. The league will expect a bigger crowd than the final played at the same ground last season.
Round Two
Victory hosts their only derby for the season very early in the season. The only derby to be played at Etihad Stadium, unless the two meet in the finals.
Round Three
In true A-League tradition they feel a need to pack the derbies into the start of the season. Allianz will host the first instalment of the Sydney derby.
Round Four
Wellington travel to Melbourne the night before Australia’s biggest horse race.
Round Six
Sydney hosts a Grand final rematch, hoping to improve on their lame 3-0 performance in the final last season.
Round Seven
Melbourne Victory plays Central Coast in the first of three consecutive Thursday night fixtures. No good for travelling fans, but could make great Fox Sports viewing.
Round Nine
Phoenix travels to Auckland to face Melbourne Victory. An interesting move away from home base of Wellington considering Victory is a heavy drawing team.
Round Ten
Another trip for Phoenix players, this time away to Brisbane in Cairns. I like the idea of travelling to Cairns for a game, but maybe an Australian team would be better so fans could throw in a Port Douglas holiday.
Round Twelve
Ho Ho Ho, Santa (and Newcastle Jets) are heading to Pirtek Stadium on the night before Christmas this season.
Sydney and Adelaide host Boxing Day games, whilst Victory plays Perth the day after many Melbournians are underwhelmed by the travelling West Indies cricket team.
Round Thirteen
It’s Back – Central Coast fans will once again bring in the New Year Eve at the football. Great to see the league listening to Mariners fans and bringing the game back.
Round Fourteen
Not so good news for Central Coast fans with the club selling its Victory fixture and playing it at Geelong. The game was a success last season and playing the game under the Kardinia Park lights will add to the fixture but I’m not sure Geelong will see another 20,000 fans make the trip down the highway.
Round Sixteen
Melbourne is the chosen venue for Australia Day this season with City hosting Phoenix on Australia Day eve and we once again see the traditional Australia Day fixture between Victory and Sydney FC.
Round Seventeen
The Phoenix road trip that is the 2015/16 season continues when they travel to Christchurch to play Central Coast.
Round Twenty-Seven
Central Coast and Newcastle finish the season with a F3 Derby. At least if both teams repeat last season’s dismal efforts the fans have this game to look forward to.
