NPLNSW Round 13-17 Recap: Beginning the Final countdown

As I write this, there are only five rounds left in the regular season of the top tier of NSW Football. At the top are last year’s champions Blacktown City who are closely followed by this year’s surprise packets APIA Leichhardt Tigers and usual suspects Bonnyrigg White Eagles. Whilst Marconi Stallions, Rockdale City Suns and Parramatta FC look to avoid the automatic drop.

Round 13

Round 13 of the competition brought a few surprises despite the fact that the now top 3 avoided them. In quite possibly the biggest surprise of the round, Parramatta Fc managed to grab a win against Sydney Olympic away from home thanks to a deflected free kick by Juan Chavez. Elsewhere in the match of the round, Sutherland Sharks managed to bounce back from an early goal to come out on top of Mark Rudans Sydney United eventually running out 3-1 winners.

Blacktown City 4-0 South Coast Wolves

Round 14

An Italian Derby highlighted Round 14 of the competition. Whilst elsewhere Bonnyrigg jumped to 3rd and Blacktown maintained their position in first. Lambert Park was host to the second Italian derby of the season as Apia Tigers ran riot scoring 6 goals on their way to victory over Marconi. The result never looked in doubt as the leagues in form striker Blake Powell scored his 19th and 20th goals of this year’s campaign. Elsewhere Bonnyrigg managed to win a heavyweight clash over Sydney Olympic.

Round 15

Round 15 saw Sydney Olympic bounce back from some poor form whilst Sydney United’s form slide continued. Although Sydney Olympics game was rescheduled to what turned out to be the opposition’s home ground at Lambert Park. Olympic took an early lead through a Will Angel goal. However it didn’t last till half time as Nick Olsen pounced on a keeper’s mistake. However Olympic grabbed a deserved winner just after the half through a Leigh Egger goal. Elsewhere Sydney United conceded 4 away at South Coast.

Round 16

Round 16 saw the clash of first v second between Apia Leichhardt Tigers and Blacktown City. Unfortunately for both it ended in a 1-1 draw with the goals for respective sides coming from Mitchell Mallia and Corey Biczo. This leaved the door open for Bonnyrigg who continued their climb with a high scoring victory over Sutherland at home. Elsewhere Sydney United snapped a 4 game losing streak and a resurgent Rockdale overcame Olympic despite having 10 men.

Round 17

As always Round 17 of the NPLNSW saw some quality entertainment. In the FTSAUS match of the round Sutherland sharks hosted the second place Apia. Turns out the result became crucial given later results with Apia conceding two goals in the last 5 minutes to effectively drop two points. Elsewhere in the derby, Sydney United went down to now second place Bonnyrigg and Blacktown City played out a draw with Rockdale. So with 5 rounds to go, all is to play for.
