Harbour View: Another Game, Another late winner
Sydney Fc 1-0 Western Sydney Wanderers
So we’re now 3 games into the season and although Graham Arnold’s men haven’t been playing to the best of their abilities, the sky blues find themselves in first position. Why? Simply because the team seems to have something of which they’ve possibly never had before. A fighting character and one man deserves credit for it, Mr Arnold.
In terms of the actual game, Sydney we’re outplayed by our city counterparts. It was the type of game of which Tony Popovic craves as a centre back. A tight tussle with few real chances on goal. The chance of the first half fell to Sotirio, who flicked a Nichols ball into the back of the net only for the goal to be ruled out due to a fractional but correct offside call. For the sky blues, only one effort was of note with a curved Ninkovic show from 20 yards out going fractionally wide early on.
The second half was no different when it came to the pattern of play. Actually it was possibly more one sided in favour of the red and black team. Indeed they came close again when Janjetovic heroically denied Vidosic despite suffering food poisoning on game day. Once again, the tactical mind of Arnold swayed the game with Tavares coming on for Dimitrijevic and Hoole replacing Holosko. This evened the game out on the field which eventually resulted in the winner. The goal itself was a piece of magic, a beautiful through ball, was controlled magically by Ninkovic who masterfully finished to send the sky blues into raptures. Sydney once again was painted Sky Blue.
Central Coast Away Preview
So now for the traditional David vs Goliath battle. This clash in particular hasn’t brought many good memories in recent years. However last year in the regular season and going into this season we are undefeated away from home. In terms of what I want to see from this team, a few goals would be nice and preferably if they come before the 89th minute?
In terms of personal, maybe this game could be used as an experimental fixture (particularly up front). Would be good to see Holosko be given a go up front leading the line. Elsewhere the team is pretty stable quite surprisingly with the team keeping two clean sheets in a row with particularly Jurman impressing in the derby.
W-League
Things aren’t so rosy for the sky blue women. However it could well have been expected with the team having a particularly rough draw early facing Melbourne City and Canberra. However things can only get better from here on out and is there any better way than a W-league derby. However it is played at Pirtek so it won’t be easy. The game will be shown on Foxsports Sunday afternoon.
Player of the week.
In the past two weeks. Matthew Jurman has well in truly proved himself as a feasible option in central defence. For that he deserves a lot of credit particularly since the first half against round 1 opponent Melbourne City was anything but encouraging. However if it wasn’t for him and Faty in defence, we wouldn’t be on top of the table.
