45 Minutes, 3 Goals, 3 Points
Well then, that was something wasn’t it?
At half-time betting agencies were paying out on City and putting the Jets at ridiculous odds to make any sort of miracle comeback. How wrong were they?
The Scott Miller half-time talk rocket did the team wonders, as well as a tactical change to bring in Cam Watson and like a half-injured Gazelle wriggling free from a Lion’s grasp, the Jets landed 3 goals and snatched 3 points. Just beautiful.
The main thing about the win last week that impressed everyone was that in situations similar to this in previous years, the Jets would have conceded 5 and sacked half the squad. But instead some actual pride was shown, and in extension some respect to the long-suffering fan base.
One player who stood up and was counted was Milos Trifunovic, the man who puts the “fun” in “GOAL MILOS TRIFUNOVIC”. His calmness at the spot was all on show to see after not scoring since matchday 1, and his header was pinpoint and the game winner. Milos has had potential in nearly every game to grab a bagful and he put it on show here, expect to see more goals from Milos.
Also honourable mention goes to Birraz, his performance in goal off the back of having his jaw re-arranged.
Now we look to the match against Wanderers, and what promises to be a statement game for Newcastle.
For the first time in a long time, the Jets are favourites in a match, and have some semblance of fan expectation and pressure on them to win, will be interesting to see how the team responds.
Even more so, will be how the balance of Jets/Wanderers fans ends up. For too long Wanderers fans have rocked up to Fortress Novacastria and outnumbered the locals, this cannot and should not happen, and I’m hoping the win last week and the solid performance last home game will see the fans flock back in greater numbers.
The Jets should win this, and will, watch us fly away with a 3-0 victory.
