Hip Hop Adelaide United go 2nd from top and ensure REDS fans have a very happy Easter, taking all 3 points and the chocolates.
The game however didn’t go according to plan and like last time when the Mariners played United it was the Visitors who took the lead. A great goal and finish from O’Donovan who got on the end of a fine through ball from 18year old Liam Rose. 1 zip to Central Coast after 15 mins and REDS fans were feeling a little sick from the Chocolate earlier in the day.
However it was soon to change and change quickly for Adelaide United, 3 goals to the REDS in just 9 minutes saw a Blitz usually reserved for the Boys in Blue on the South Australian roads at Easter which left the Mariners dazed and confused like fluffy white Bunnys in the headlights.
A thunderbolt from Isais levelled things up for United on 28mins, IZZO maybe should have done better but he certainly couldn’t have done anything when Mauk went through the Mariners defence like a excited 3 year old on a Easter egg hunt and smashed it home to give the home side the lead just some 6 mins later.
Big Bruce Djite made it 3 for UNITED on 37 minutes after a great assist from Goodwin and the big striker had his 30th goal in a REDS shirt going level with Travis Dodd as our all time record goal scorer. So the 9 minute Blitz was complete as the half came to a close.
The 2nd half saw the home side continue the possession as they took the sting out of the game and prevented the bottom placed Mariners to get back into it, But after 80 minutes super sub Pablo Sanchez created himself his very own highlight and converted a penalty he won for the REDS after being brought down in the box. 4 , 1 now and points were secured.
O’Donovan got one back late for the Mariners, a cracking Volley but all too late to see any change in who was going to win this game.
Adelaide United got the must needed 3 points and did the job required today to hop into 2nd spot. They inturn ensured the Chocolate eggs for REDS fans tasted all so much more sweeter. Happy Easter guys!
