Legs Eleven
Oh what a night in Gosford as the mighty REDS slip out of 2nd gear and drop it into third position.
Three points, three goals and 3rd spot on the ladder ,the boys are cruising along the highway to finals like a RED Ferrari . 11 games now unbeaten and 27 points from a possible 33 on offer has the Adelaide United fans buzzing in anticipation of just what this team could achieve come the business end of the season.
Of course it was not all one way traffic in this one, Fabio Ferreira opened the scoring after 32 minutes and the REDS found themselves a goal down, disappointing 45 minutes for Adelaide United, although dominating the possession stats the boys could not break down a very well organised mariners outfit and due to this went into the sheds a goal behind.
Amor must’ve had the right oranges for the lads at halftime as the 2nd half was dominated by United. Isaias led the charge and completely dominated the midfield and started attack after attack for the REDS, his freekick after 53 minutes was an absolute belter as it burst the back of the net from 25 yards. Just reward to not only his performance but to Adelaide United as they drew level.
Some 12 minutes later Adelaide finally got their noses in front as Bruce from a corner smashed the ball home from 5 yards out; yes there was a hint of offside but still a deserved goal to the visitors on the sheer weight of possession.
The Mariners did chase the game in the last 15 minutes but Adelaide’s united defense again stood strong as McGowan, Marrone, Elsey and Goodwin kept the home side out with relative ease.
The game of course was put to bed in stoppage time after a quick counter attack to the REDS saw young gun and South Aussie Stefan Mauk get on the end of a great cross from a flying Craig Goodwin down the wing and Mauk blasted it into the roof of the net.
A very late goal to the home side pulled it back to 3-2 but the final whistle went shortly after and the reds got another valuable away win after having the ball on a string for large periods in the 2nd half.
Adelaide United are cruising along nicely, after 8 rounds we couldn’t get out of first gear but in the last 11 games the REDs have been dropping the clutch and overtaking teams on the road to finals as we slam it into 3rd!
